Reconstruction:Proto-West Germanic/strīpō
Appearance
Proto-West Germanic
[edit]Etymology
[edit]From Proto-Germanic *strīpô, apparently from a Proto-Indo-European *streyb-o-, from a root *streyb- (“stripe”), with the only adduced cognate being Old Irish sríab (“stripe, line”).[1] Whether *streyb- is ultimately an extension of Proto-Indo-European *sterh₃- (“to spread”) is unclear.
