[edit]From Proto-Germanic *leugārijaz (“liar”), from *leuganą (“to lie”) + *-ārijaz. Equivalent to *leugan + *-ārī. Cognate with Old Norse ljúgari (“liar”), Icelandic lygari (“liar”).
