[edit]Perhaps from Proto-Germanic *þaisimô, from Proto-Indo-European *(s)teh₂y- (“to knead”), compare Proto-Celtic *taistos (“dough”), Proto-Slavic *těsto (“dough”), Ancient Greek σταῖς (staîs) ~ σταιτός (staitós, “dough”).[1]
