[edit]Possibly related to *tìskati. According to Beekes, linked to Ancient Greek σταῖς (staîs, “dough”) (gen. σταιτός (staitós)). Per Derksen, from Proto-Indo-European *th₂ei-s-tóm, cognates include Old High German theismo, deismo, Old Irish taís (“dough”), and Welsh toes.
