[edit]Unknown; presumably related to Proto-Slavic *loboda (“goosefoot, orach”), and possibly Ancient Greek λάπαθον (lápathon, “monk's rhubarb, sorrel”), perhaps all borrowed Iranian, Uralic, or some substrate language.
