Etymology

Inherited from Proto-Balto-Slavic *wéselas, from *h₁wés- (good) + *-elъ. Akin to u-stem *h₁wésus (good) (see there for further descendants). An example of archaic Caland derivation which operated in early Proto-Indo-European.
