[edit]From *struja (“stream”) + *-iti, from Proto-Balto-Slavic *s(t)raujāˀ, ultimately from the causative éye-form of Proto-Indo-European *srew- (“flow”).

Etymology 2
[edit]Attested only indirectly though its derivative *ostrujiti.[1] Either from the same origin as *strujiti (“to gush out”) or from proto-Indo-European *strew- (“to strew, to construct”). In the later case, the term would be a cognate with Proto-Germanic *strawjaną (“to strew”) and indirectly with Latin struō (“to compose”).
