Possibly derived from Proto-Indo-European *sḱṓr pl (excrements) + *-ędъ. Cognates include Ancient Greek σκῶρ (skôr), Latin -cerda, Proto-Germanic *skarną and Sanskrit अवस्कर (avaskara).
