Etymology

Stang, Miklosich, Mladenov and Ilyinsky suggested derivation from *pri- +‎ *jistьnъ, as in *jistъ. Reconstruction as *pri-stъ, and derivation from *pri- +‎ *-stъ is rejected by Sobolevsky.
