Etymology

Per Shapiro, possibly composed of Proto-Indo-European *ne-h₁m-seh₂-tis, equivalent to *ne- (not) +‎ *ęti (to take) +‎ *sytь (satiation), perhaps meaning something like “the insatiable taker”.
