Etymology

Uncertain. Possibly an extension of Proto-Slavic *dьrati (to tear off) (cf. *drapati, *draskati) or akin to Proto-Germanic *drupjaną (to drip), from Proto-Indo-European *dʰrewb- (to crumble, to grind).
