Cognate with Lithuanian gegužė̃, gegùžė, degužė̃, gegùžis, gegužė̃lė, Latvian dzȩguze, dzȩgûze, dzȩguôze, dzȩguse, dzȩgusis, Old Prussian geguse, Proto-Germanic *gaukaz.[1][2][3]
