[edit]Likely from Proto-Uralic *wole-.[1] The loss of initial *w- is unexpected, but a similar development is also seen in *ü- (“to drag, pull”) (← Proto-Uralic *wixe-) and possibly *i- (“to take”) (? ← Proto-Uralic *wexe-).
