[edit]From Proto-Indo-European *h₁wogʷʰéyeti, a causative verb; ultimately, from Proto-Indo-European *h₁wegʷʰ- (to promise; to praise). Cognates include Ancient Greek εὔχομαι (eúkhomai), Sanskrit वाघत् (vāghát) and Old Armenian գոգեմ (gogem).
