[edit]Innovated from feminine *Hmíčas (compare Sanskrit स्नुषा (snuṣā), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *snušás f), thematicized from Proto-Indo-Iranian *Hmíčš ~ *Hmiǰʰás (compare Proto-Iranian *pā́dah, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *pā́ts), from Proto-Indo-European *h₃méygʰ-s ~ *h₃migʰ-és, from *h₃meygʰ- (“fog, mist, cloud”) + *-s.
