From Proto-Indo-Iranian *čyáHtiš, from Proto-Indo-European *kʷyéh₁-ti-s ~ *kʷih₁-téy-s, from *kʷyeh₁- (to rest) +‎ *-tis.[1] Cognate with Latin quiēs (rest, peace).[2]
