[edit]From Proto-Indo-European *nésdyos, from *nesd-, from a compound of a prefix that is perhaps cognate with Ancient Greek ᾰ̓νᾰ́ (aná, “on, upon”) + Proto-Indo-European *sed- (“sit”).[1][2]
