[edit]From Proto-Indo-Aryan *názdyas, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *názdyas, from Proto-Indo-European *nésdyos, from *nesd-. Cognate with Avestan 𐬥𐬀𐬰𐬛𐬌𐬌𐬋 (nazdiiō, “nearer”), Persian نزدیک (nazdik), Pashto نزدې (nizde).
