[edit]From Proto-Indo-European *h₁rébʰ-e-ti, from Proto-Indo-European *h₁rebʰ- (“to cover, to roof; rib”); cognate with Proto-Germanic *ribją (“rib; reef, ridge”) and Proto-Balto-Slavic *rébra (“rib”).[1]
