Proto-Germanic

[edit]

Etymology

[edit]

From Pre-Germanic *wúlpos, from Proto-Indo-European *wĺ̥kʷos. Changes: *wúlkʷos > *wúlpos > *wulfaz (analogically: *pénkʷe > *pémpe > *fimf). If *wúlkʷos didn't change to *wúlpos, it would look like **wulhwaz in Proto-Germanic.
