[edit]From Proto-Indo-European *wél-ti-s ~ *wl̥-téy-s, from *wel- (“to see”) + *-tis. Cognate with Latin vultus (“feature, appearance, visage, aspect, look”), Old Armenian գեղ (geł). Compare *wulþuz (“glory”). By synchronic analysis, a nominal formation from *wlītaną (“to see, look”).[1]
