[edit]From *waluz (“staff”) + *-ǭ (“feminine agent suffix”). Proto-Germanic terms regarding sorcery often involve spinning, rolling or encircling; compare *walwijaną ("to roll"). Also compare the name *Walubergō ("wand-saviour").
