Etymology

From Proto-Indo-European *dwi-pl-o-s (double, twofold), from *dwóh₁ (two) + a zero-grade suffixed form *pl-o-s of *pel- (to fold). Identical with Ancient Greek διπλόος (diplóos, double)[1] and Latin duplus.
