[edit]From pre-Germanic *truppōną, from a nasal suffix/infix paradigm *dr̥bʰ-néh₂- ~ *dr-n̥-bʰ- (cf. *trappōną (“to trample”)), ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *drebʰ- (“to tread, step, trip”).
