[edit]From Proto-Indo-European *h₁l̥h₁-on-bʰ-os- (related to Scottish Gaelic lon (“elk”), Ancient Greek ἔλαφος (élaphos, “red deer”)), enlargement of *h₁elh₁én, from *h₁el- (“deer, elk”).[1]
