From Proto-Indo-European *h₁l̥h₁-on-bʰ-os- (related to Scottish Gaelic lon (elk), Ancient Greek ἔλαφος (élaphos, red deer)), enlargement of *h₁elh₁én, from *h₁el- (deer, elk).[1]
