[edit]From pre-Germanic *ph₂ḱrós, equivalent to unattested *fahaną (“to fasten”) + *-raz, a ro-stem derived from Proto-Indo-European *peh₂ḱ- (“to fasten, place”).[1] Cognate with Umbrian pacer (“gracious, merciful, kind”), Slovak pekný (“good-looking, handsome, nice”).
