Reconstruction:Proto-Germanic/drabaz
Appearance
Proto-Germanic
[edit]Etymology
[edit]An s-stem possibly derived from Proto-Indo-European *dʰrobʰ-, o-grade of *dʰrebʰ- (“thickened sediment”). Cognate with Proto-Slavic *droba (“sediment”) and possibly related to Ancient Greek τρέφω (tréphō, “to thicken, curdle”); see the Greek for more theories on the origin of the root.[1]
Given the lack of certain cognates, M. Philippa suspects non-IE substrate origin. (Can this(+) etymology be sourced?)
