[edit]Possibly from *bōwwjaną (“to settle, inhabit”) + *-þlą (instrumental suffix)[3], or perhaps from *bōþō (“building, dwelling”) + *-(i)lą,[4] or from Proto-Indo-European *bʰoh₂u-tlo-m (compare Lithuanian būklà (“presence (of mind), dwelling”)), all possibly from *bʰweh₂- (“to grow, arise, become”)[1].
