From Proto-Indo-European *téngʰ-u-s ~ *tn̥gʰ-éw-s (heavy; to pull back), cognate with Lithuanian tingùs (heavy), Old Church Slavonic тѧжькъ (tęžĭkŭ, idem).[1]
