[edit]Unknown. Possibly related to Northern Sami bázzi (if not borrowed from Finnish). LÄGLOS rejects borrowing from early Proto-Germanic *bandstaz.[1] This etymology is incomplete. You can help Wiktionary by elaborating on the origins of this term.
