Etymology

From Proto-Finno-Permic *orja, probably borrowed from Proto-Indo-Iranian *áryas (Aryan); see the Proto-Finno-Permic entry for more. Cognates include Erzya уре (uŕe), Moksha уре (uŕe), possibly Proto-Samic *oarjē (south).
