Etymology

From earlier *kaća (related to Northern Sami geahčči (“point”)). Possibly an early loan from Indo-European language, ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *h₂eḱ-. Has also been compared with Hungarian hegy (“mountain”), although this relation is unlikely.
