[edit]Borrowed from Proto-Baltic *ansā (whence Latvian osa, Lithuanian ąsa and Old Prussian ansis), from Proto-Indo-European *h₂emseh₂ (compare Latin ānsa). Cognate with Proto-Samic *vuossē.
