[edit]From Proto-Indo-European *wókʷtlom, from the root *wekʷ- (“to utter, voice”).[1] Cognate with Proto-Indo-Iranian *wáktram (“mouth”) (whence Sanskrit वक्त्र (vaktra), Avestan 𐬬𐬀𐬑𐬆𐬜𐬭𐬀 (vaxəδra)).
