[edit]Matasović derives this from Proto-Indo-European *tewk- (“swelling”),[1] whence also Proto-Germanic *þeuhą (“thigh”) and Lithuanian taukai (“fat”).

Reconstruction notes
[edit]- Zair points out that there is no regular sound change sequence that yields both Irish tón and Welsh tin simultaneously; from *tuknā one would expect Welsh **twyn, since Brittonic regularly vocalized velars before *n.[2]
