[edit]From a collective of a vṛddhi formation *ḱewnós (“(born) of dogs”), from Proto-Indo-European *ḱwṓ (“dog”).[1][2] See also *deywós (“god”), whence Proto-Celtic *deiwos, for a similar formation.
