Proto-Celtic
[edit]Etymology
[edit]No etymology given by Delamarre.
The usual derivation takes this as derived from Proto-Indo-European *kʷyeh₁- (“to rest”),[1][2] but this requires a metathesis in its currently reconstructed form, and this reconstruction cannot accommodate the Gaulish words.
