Proto-Celtic

[edit]

Etymology

[edit]

No etymology given by Delamarre.

The usual derivation takes this as derived from Proto-Indo-European *kʷyeh₁- (to rest),[1][2] but this requires a metathesis in its currently reconstructed form, and this reconstruction cannot accommodate the Gaulish words.
