[edit]Likely of expressive/onomatopoeic origin. Compared to Proto-Slavic *groza (“horror”), Ancient Greek γοργός (gorgós, “rough, frightsome”), Old Armenian կարծր (karcr, “hard”), which could be related or just similarities.
