Etymology

Uncertain. Possibly from Proto-Indo-European *gʷr̥-né-H-ti ~ *gʷr̥-n-H-énti, from *gʷerH- (to praise, elevate) +‎ *-né- +‎ *-ti.[1][2][3][4]
