Etymology
[edit]Unknown; possibly from Proto-Indo-European *pl̥b-ró-s, from *pleb- (“to babble”) + *-rós,[2] or perhaps onomatopoeic[1], compare Ancient Greek βᾰ́ρβᾰρος (bắrbăros), English blab, blabber for other examples of sound-symbolic mixes of labial and liquid consonants to symbolize talking.
