Prakrit

[edit]

Etymology

[edit]

Replacing अभ्यङ्क्ते (abhyaṅkte, annoints oneself), from the root अभ्यञ्ज् (abhyañj), from अभि (abhi) +‎ अञ्ज् (añj, to annoint), probably by analogy as if to be from a passive *अभ्यज्यते (abhyajyate). See 𑀪𑀕𑁆𑀕 (bhagga) for more.

Verb

[edit]

*𑀪𑀺𑀚𑁆𑀚𑀇 (*bhijjaï)

  1. is annointed, gets wet, is smeared

Descendants

[edit]

From a past participle *𑀪𑀺𑀡𑁆𑀡 (*bhiṇṇa) by analogy to 𑀪𑀺𑀡𑁆𑀡 (bhiṇṇa, having been split) ~ 𑀪𑀺𑀚𑁆𑀚𑀇 (bhijjaï, is split) (from भिन्न (bhinna) ~ भिद्यते (bhidyate)):
