[edit]From *ganǰam (“treasure”) + *barah (“bearer”), from Proto-Indo-European *bʰer- (“to bear”). Cognate with Parthian 𐭂𐭍𐭆𐭁𐭓 (gnzbr /ganzbar/), 𐫃𐫉𐫗𐫁𐫡 (gznbr /gaznβar/), Sogdian 𐼲𐼵𐼻𐼱𐽀 (ɣznβr /γaznβar/), Old Armenian գանձաւոր (ganjawor).
