[edit]Alternative form of vericulum, diminutive of verū (“dart”), with the ending changed to -uculum and with /rr/ taken from ferrum (“iron”). Indirectly attested in the works of Augustine via the derivative veruclātus (“locked, bolted”), implying a denominal *verruculāre.
