Reconstruction

The outcomes without /d/ seem to reflect sporadic substitution of the prefix dis- with ex-. (Interchange between the two privatives is common, especially in Italy.) The preponderance of the /d/ forms,^[1] however, suggests that *dismenticāre is original.
