Etymology

A transliteration of Bengali রাজবাড়ী (rajbaṛi), a compound of রাজ (raj, “royal”) + বাড়ী (baṛi, “house”), literally meaning "palace, royal-house", as it is an homage to the former royalties (nawabs) and wealthy landowners (zamindars) of the region.
