[edit]From Ukrainian Подніпров'я (Podniprovʺja): Russian and Ukrainian по- (po-, “circum-”) + Ukrainian Дніпро (Dnipro, “Dnieper”) + Russian and Ukrainian -о́в (-óv, “-ian”) + Ancient Greek -ία (-ía): literally “along the people of river Dnieper lands”
