[edit]Etymology
[edit]From Pfeil (“arrow”) + Storch (“stork”).
Noun
[edit]Pfeilstorch m (strong, genitive Pfeilstorches or Pfeilstorchs, plural Pfeilstörche)
- A stork (generally Ciconia ciconia) that has been pierced by an African hunter's arrow but lived to migrate northwards to Europe; a number of such storks have been spotted in German-speaking Europe since the nineteenth century, giving insight into migratory patterns.
