[edit]First attested as poedersijnsambocht in 1282. Potentially a compound of Old Dutch podero (“calf, foal”) or the otherwise unknown personal name *Poeder and hēm (“home, settlement”). Compare Poederoijen, Poeijers, Sterksel, Vaarle, Vaarsel, Varsen, Varssel, Varsselder, Varsseveld, Ten Vorsel and Bolsele.
