[edit]New Latin, from Ancient Greek πᾰρᾰ- (pără-, “beside”) + γόνῐμος (gónĭmos, “productive, fertile”), from γόνος (gónos, “seed, genitals”) + -ῐμος (-ĭmos, “-able”), for its ovaries and testes are next to each other.
