Etymology
[edit]First attested as iodichem [read: i odichem] in 918-948. Etymology uncertain. The toponym appears to be a compound of an unknown first element and the suffix Proto-Germanic *-ikja-. The element Old Dutch hēm (“home, settlement”) in the oldest attestation is a scribal insertion.
